Dear Chadwick

Dear Chadwick,

Great shows like The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Family Matters, The Hughleys, Bernic Mac Show, Jamie Foxx, Martin, Static Shock, Power Rangers, and getting to see black men and women walk tall and proud through humor and heart and wit was electric. I saw greatness through entertainment making someone like me believe anything is possible.

As T’Challa, many have sought your spirit, and your good works and will continue long after. I am so glad your parents saw light and love in you and cherished that. I am so grateful they wanted you to soar higher and higher. I am so blessed they instilled patience, gentleness, grace, self-control, reverence, love, swagger, wonder, grace, and power. I am overwhelmed by your willingness to go higher, further, faster to infinity, and beyond to be a force for good throughout your education. I had no doubt you had your fair share of fears and uncertainty. But you carried on. I am glad your perseverance ignited Phylicia Rashad to take a chance on you and what a gift it was for to Denzel let his endless, selfless nature ignite the spark to your success.

I thank you for speaking your truth by showing the world your talent from Jackie Robinson, James Brown, and Thurgood Marshall. Even when the real world was spinning out of control, you tirelessly brought life to each movie and every interview with wit, sincerity, and insight. In each role, you said something about black culture. It is beautiful… powerful… one of struggle but one where WE are BOLD..PRECIOUS… and turning the VOICELESS to the HEARD. What a moment in time to be anointed as the King of the greatest fictional realm since Asgard; Wakanda. From Captain America: Civil War to Avengers: Endgame, you brought 1000% to every moment, on and off the screen. Comic con…children’s hospitals, premieres, talk shows, podcasts, and making sure this wasn’t just a film.

It was a moment in human history that will let the world know black excellence is here to stay. You blew the door wide open so others will know the whole spectrum of black excellence; an army of those before you who have worked through blood sweat and tears to make their voices heard through the world of injustice.. You are so loved…I hope you knew that…I was grateful that in my life I continued to seek out voices. that speak truth to power and people that bring them to life. Black Panther changed my life and I hope to be one of the millions more to carry the banner and trail blaze. I wish you were here to rock the MCU in the Multiverse Saga. I wish I could tell you how much you mean to me. God called you home and I am touched by how much you were willing to fight even when it hurt.. When the world pushed back with its senseless hate you were never gonna stop. Bob Marley once said:

“The people who were trying to make this world worse are not taking a day off. How can I? Light up the darkness. “

You have always done that..
I love and admire you 3000. You are the strongest avenger.
You will be missed. May you run free for all time.
May this world know your example and ignite change,
You surely have changed mine.
See you again.
Your light will live on.
Thank you, Chadwick.
