I was woefully unprepared for the opening scene of Santa’s Slay, which features a dysfunctional family – headed by the Nanny herself, Fran Drescher – sitting down for Christmas Dinner, when their bickering is cut short by the arrival of jolly ole Saint Nick. As the family looks on in disbelief, Santa – looking all buff and intimidating – proceeds to kill their dog (poor Sprinkles!) and slaughters everyone in the household, drowning Fran in eggnog, suffocating the father (James Caan, notable for his role as Sonny Corleone in The Godfather) with a turkey drumstick, and hurling a treetop star straight into the back of one of the fleeing daughters.
