Please Stand By: What is Fallout 76?

Fallout fans worldwide rejoice! Three years after the release of the critically acclaimed Fallout 4, Bethesda Game Studios released a teaser trailer for their latest entry in post-apocalyptic, bestselling franchise. While there is no word of an official release date yet, Bethesda confirmed that the game will playable on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

According to the trailer, the game’s timeline is set following the initial nuclear blast. This means factions like the Brotherhood of Steel has not yet formed, and the familiar landscapes of Megaton and Diamond City do not exist. Does this mean the player will be instrumental in their creation? Details are scarce, but the titular Vault 76 has been mentioned in Fallout lore.

Vault 76 is one of seventeen “control vaults”, and was used as a baseline for more experimental vaults. It was known to house 500 residents and was set to open only 20 years after the Great War. This means the player will be instrumental in helping develop the post-nuclear society.

Bethesda will unveil more details during this year’s E3 Showcase on June 10 at 6:30 pm.
